Policy Update July 2021
Additions and Updates to the Directory as of July 16, 2021
Two new policies were added to the Directory:
-
FIN-055: Faculty and Staff International Travel. This new policy establishes a requirement to register itineraries and contact information for all international travel by University faculty and staff. Registration will automatically grant insurance coverage to provide emergency and medical support as needed during international travel. While prior approval to undertake international travel is not required, the University retains the authority to prohibit or otherwise restrict the expenditure of University funds for travel to specific destinations in cases of extreme risk to travelers’ security.
-
HRM-012: Workplace Flexibility. This new policy for Classified Staff, University Staff, and Administrative & Professional Faculty permits eligible employees to work remotely or to work alternative schedules for all or part of their workweek.
Several existing policies were modified:
-
EXT-006: Solicitation and Acceptance of Gifts of Real Property, Life Insurance, Personal Property, and Fine Arts. Revised the policy by separating out gifts of tangible and intangible personal property and establishing the Office of Gift Planning as the central facilitator for gifts.
-
HRM-006: Employee Recognition for Classified Staff. Revised the policy to relocate procedures to the UVA HR website and replace “supplemental pay” terminology with “recognition payment.”
-
IRM-005: Coordination and Approval of Telecommunication Services. Revised the policy to reflect the current state of telecommunications at UVA and set forth requirements for use of the University Telephone System.
-
SEC-009: Utilization of Radioactive Materials. Expanded the policy to cover radiation producing equipment, added new definitions, laid out responsibilities, and established requirements for monitoring and dosimetry.
-
STU-001: Use of Alcoholic Beverages and Prohibition of Other Drugs. With recent changes to the Commonwealth’s marijuana laws, this policy has not changed. Possession, use, and distribution of marijuana remains prohibited on all University property and at all University functions under the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act and the Drug Free Workplace Act. This prohibition includes dorms and other student residences on University property.
