SEC-041: Use of Amplified Sound on Outdoor University Property
The University is committed to providing an environment conducive to its mission of education and research. Requirements have been established to ensure that amplified sound associated with events held on University property does not disrupt the academic and work environments.
Any sound that is broadcast through electronically amplified equipment.
Land or buildings that the University owns or leases and that is under the control of the Board of Visitors. University property also includes premises the University uses for activities of its offices, departments, personnel, or students.
Use of amplified sound on outdoor University property is subject to reasonable time, place, and manner restrictions. Use of amplified sound on outdoor property requires advance approval by Event Planning Services (Student Affairs), Intramural-Recreational Sports for IM-Rec areas, Housing and Residence Life for residential community areas, or the Deans of the School of Medicine and Nursing for outdoor University property near the Schools of Medicine and Nursing.
Amplified sound is not permitted for more than three hours per day per outdoor area. A sound check lasting no more than 45 minutes may be approved in addition to the three-hour reservation. Amplified sound on outdoor University property will generally be approved only for the following time-frames during the academic session:
Friday: 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Amplified sound will not be permitted where it disrupts student education, residential living, research, or the faculty/staff work environment.
This policy does not apply to use of amplified sound on outdoor University Property for events and activities endorsed by the President and sponsored by the Office of Major Events, another University office, or a University-Related Foundation. In order to avoid accidental conflicts with other scheduled activities and events, use of amplified sound on outdoor property requires advance approval as noted above.
Compliance with Policy:
Failure to comply with the requirements of this policy may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination or expulsion in accordance with relevant University policies.
Any person who violates this policy may be removed from University property and/or prosecuted for trespass or other offenses under state law.
Individuals or groups not in compliance with this policy may have their event cancelled, suspended, or terminated.
